The Magician Who Didn’t Want to Be a Magician
I think you wanted me to see through your tricks
You left wires visible
The trap door left wide open
I saw your hat begin to slip
As you shrunk to your cape
I think you wanted me to see through your tricks
Behind the curtain, you loosen your cape, let down the wand
More than anything, you wanted someone to see through your tricks
To pull out the words you desired to speak
Though, too afraid to find yourself alone, speaking to an audience that never existed
You always played a good game of cat and mouse
Hoping
Someone
Someday
might catch you
You saw me
Capable of detecting transparency
(or lack thereof)
With the drop of a cape
I think you wanted me to see through your tricks
I’ve come to understand,
and I’m sorry to say,
That though ambitious,
I feel as if some things,
few things,
Are better left unsaid
