Life is movement, though the most basic foundation of life is survival (eating, resting, maintaining safety/health, etc.); without it, we couldn’t accomplish or engage with much.

Oftentimes, possibly too often, survival is mistaken as the only way of life. Clinging to this thought leads to autopiloted lives where each day is akin to the last until death do we part.

Opposition to survival lies living. Living includes movement, engagement, and participation with what life offers us.

Maintaining both survival and living leads to a balanced life and mental state. With an abundance of information being constantly thrown our way every second of each day, it’s easy to become sucked into a vortex of moving back and fourth between the two.

This is an insidious act in itself because we soon tend to fall into a habit of leaning too far one way or the other.

We neglect the grey area in between: existence.

Existence can be portrayed as something rather bland; it’s mere being, the act of being presently aware in a moment with nothing to show for it. Though a simple concept to understand, it can be a difficult one to grasp since the constant of information and movement of life itself.

Engaging with mere existence helps us to slow down in the midst of havoc. By gently bringing…
